At this time last year, we were brought into a special meeting with the school principal telling us they were going to retain our daughter for the next year and that was the final decision. We knew our daughter was struggling but we didn’t really know how serious it was. Needless to say, we were upset and shocked. We felt the staff at the school was making what they thought was the best choice, but something told us to look deeper into what was going on with our daughter.
After a few conversations with local experts, we found Dyslexia St. Louis where they immediately took us under their wing and comforted us as well as gave us information to empower us. Sarah was with us when we had to craft a letter to the school to ask for an IEP and was also our advocate when it came to the first meeting with our daughter’s new diagnosis of ADHD.
The assistance we received from the team at DSL was invaluable. Navigating this all as parents new to the world of dyslexia was made so much easier with their help. A few months later, our daughter is reading above grade level and we’ve tapered off the 1:1 reading tutoring that she was receiving. Our daughter’s confidence level in all schoolwork has increased and she’s regularly reading books to us at bedtime!
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, Dyslexia St. Louis! Written by M’s Mom
